Mechanical Santa Claus. Greensboro, North Carolina - Mechanical Santa Claus

20' Santa Claus, seen last year, only during holidays. He has a mechanical waving arm. During 1980, a high school classmate mowed him down with his K-5 Blazer. He was caught by the authorities and banished from town as a "Scrooge." Santa has been repaired and returns every year.

Also from my HS days (1978-1981), I remember a disassembled Muffler Man in the vicinity of Friendly Avenue and Mures Chapel Road. [Ralph Campaon, 05/27/2001]

[RA: According to tipster Dean Jeffrey, who provided the photo: "His right arm waves non-stop, although I seem to remember one year where he just stood there and didn't wave. He's been there every Christmas for as long as I can remember, and some residents say he dates back to the '50s."]
