In the 1950's while I served in the U.S. Navy I traveled between Charleston SC and Green Cove Springs, FL frequently. Several times I took my two daughters along. There was an attraction along the (US 17) road there, just south of Savannah. do not remember the name. They featured "Maude" the Beer Drinking Mule.
If you purchased a bottle of beer, the proprietor would have Maude Chug a Lug the beer. She could do it in nothing flat. One gulp and it was gone. Really entertaining for the kiddies as there was nothing else along that stretch but swamps, cows on the road, and turtles crossing the road. Not so bad now that I use I95 frequently. I miss the rough old road. But Maude had quite a following in our family. No longer there now!
