Seward, Alaska - Polar Bear Jump-off

Every year there is a Polar Bear Jump off to raise money for the Cancer Society. There are many activities along with this fundraiser. People get pledge sheets and sign up for donations for the Cancer Society. Then they dress up in costumes and take a plunge in the icy water. The water is verrry cold, costumes are great, a crazy few days.

There are prizes for the best costumes. I have seen men in tu-tus and even a King Neptune. The four days of celebration are loaded with unusual events. [Carolyn Tanner, 06/19/2001]
