Muffler Man - Cowboy
I always visit the Roadside America site to make sure I know where a nearby Muffler Man will be when I am on the road. I recently visited the Cowboy Muffler Man at 2020 National Avenue in Hayward.
[Lisa, 09/24/2015]The Muffler Man Cowboy, formerly of Boonville, Missouri, was purchased by Bruce Kennedy of Hayward, California, in the Spring of 2013. He arrived in California in May in poor condition, but has now been fully restored and repainted (And may I say he looks devilishly handsome with his new western shirt, blue jeans, and manly ten-gallon hat). We've just poured his new cement slab and as soon as it's dry, The Cowboy will be joining Big Mike, The Hayward Muffler Man, at Bell Plastics. He'll be in front of the warehouse on the streetside where anyone is welcome to come by, take pictures, and have a chat with him. The folks in the office will be happy to come out and take your picture with him for you!
[Liz Oakes, 08/18/2013]Cowboy Muffler Man for Sale
A fiberglass muffler man that stood for decades in Boonville was first auctioned off back in May 2000, acquired by a couple who intended to donate it to become a landmark statue in front of a planned children's museum near Kansas City.
The museum was never completed, and the M-Man, fully restored, remained stored in pieces by the couple who bought it. The owners decided in 2013 it was time to find a home for their cowboy giant. The cowboy giant is now for sale. Includes giant black cowboy hat.
[RoadsideAmerica.com Team, 03/22/2013]April 2013: Sold! The Muffler Man is on his way to the San Francisco Bay area.
This auction in 2000 resulted in the removal of the big cowboy from Boonville.
