LowLow's Lowrider Art

LowLow and his lovely family are back in business this weekend, alternating between selling spices, handmade soaps and jewelry, and a selection of his paintings at a stand on the western end of Santuario Drive. They give tours of his gallery and museum by appointment only: (505) 351-4444 (his number is posted on a large sign across from the Santuario, so Im assuming he wouldn't mind sharing it!) They are only offering tours on select days, so calling ahead is requested. Super friendly and fun couple!

LowLow's Lowrider Art

This is a fabulous little mini museum/art gallery literally right next to the Sanctuary in Chimayo. It's owned by artist LowLow Medina and his awesome wife, Joan, both of whom are really fun, creative people who love to talk and visit. It's like a little piece of authentic New Mexico, entirely unpretentious and just loads of fun. Espanola (one town over from Chimayo) is famous for its low rider cars, and LowLow is one of the most famous car detailers in the area.

The museum features his paintings (often with combined religious/low rider/chili themes) as well as some really amazing cars and motorcycles that he's detailed. LowLow has an indoor, barn-like showroom as well as a yard where vehicles are displayed. It's really a don't-miss situation.
