World's Largest Man-Made Moon

The Moonrise Hotel, in a St. Louis arts and culture district known for its quirky vibe, has a rooftop lounge with a rotating Moon. As the moon turns, a slight hollow noise can be heard, which adds to the magical lunar atmosphere. The hotel has several mini-exhibits of space-themed memorabilia in the lobby, and even the bathrooms have space art!

You don't have to be a guest at the Moonrise to take a trip to the moon -- a quick elevator to the rooftop will do. It's really a nice view of the city (we were eager to get some city views since the Arch was closed during the government shutdown).

The hotel, built by space collector Joe Edwards, is proud of its World's Largest Man-Made Moon title. Its decor includes signed photos of every Apollo astronaut who walked on or orbited the moon.
