Ishpeming, Michigan - Da Yooper's Tourist Trap I live in Ishpeming and frequently bring visiting friends to the Tourist Trap. No one has been disappointed with the displays or the store, but maybe this says a little something about our choice of friends. :) When you enter the store there is a sign that says something to the effect that if the kids don't behave in the store they will be fed to the alligator that lives in the basement. Until recently my children believed it, and every time we went in the store they would look down the cold air return vent to see if they could see the alligator.
The store has a large variety of Yooper items, some locally made, along with the usual "tourist trap" finds of coffee mugs, sweatshirts and cheap kid toys. They do have FREE bathrooms and they are clean and also a big yellow snow gauge out in the parking lot so visitors can see the height of recent record snowfalls. [Jessica Jamison, 08/01/2005]
