Da Yooper's Tourist Trap

I live in Ishpeming and frequently bring visiting friends to the Tourist Trap. No one has been disappointed with the displays or the store, but maybe this says a little something about our choice of friends. :) When you enter the store there is a sign that says something to the effect that if the kids don't behave in the store they will be fed to the alligator that lives in the basement. Until recently my children believed it, and every time we went in the store they would look down the cold air return vent to see if they could see the alligator.

The store has a large variety of Yooper items, some locally made, along with the usual "tourist trap" finds of coffee mugs, sweatshirts and cheap kid toys. They do have FREE bathrooms and they are clean and also a big yellow snow gauge out in the parking lot so visitors can see the height of recent record snowfalls.

Da Yoopers Tourist Trap

OK, now, here's a description of da Yoopers Tourist Trap from a actual Yooper. (A Yooper is someone who lives in da UP - Upper Peninsula - of Michigan, which, I might add, I didn't see on your list of state options, not even Superior State, which we like to call it). Anyways, let me tell ya right now dat the Tourist Trap is home to da largest working chainsaw in da world. Dere is also a gigantical shotgun what works. Da Yoopers are more dan just a store, don'tcha know...dey're a band, too.

Da Yoopers Tourist Trap

Near Ishpeming, upper MI peninsula, is Da Yoopers tourist trap, last visited in 1994. Consists of a gift shop of low class type memorabilia and an outside display of humorous Yooper scenes. One such exhibit shows Da Yoopers two-seater outhouse. The holes are one above the other -- this is the type of humor represented. I thought it was great fun in a sick sort of way. Ishpeming is just west of Ishpeming. Large signs will direct you.
