Orrville, Ohio: Towering Cow

The true size of this big bovine is difficult to gauge, since she stands near the edge of space, atop a very tall milk tank.

The Smith Dairy cow, "Smitty," left her post for about a year for a much needed makeover in 2003 - 2004. She returned to her lofty vantage point on the silo in May 2004.

The "Towering Cow" on top of the Smith Dairy milk silo in Downtown Orrville, Ohio that I reported a couple of years is no where to be found based on my visit in April 2003.

Towering Cow

As you can tell -- and defying the odds that a two-ton mammal could actually surmount a 50-foot tower of milk byproducts using the metal handladder provided -- the Smith Dairy Twin Towers in downtown Orrville is more than adequately protected by the bovine sentinel. Not sure if this cow has a name, but it's definitely a landmark in this northeastern Ohio town that is also the home of Smucker's.
