San Francisco, California: Ingleside Sundial

Giant 28-ft. sundial gnomon accurately tells time in this circle park within a residential neighborhood. The sundial was dedicated in 1913 as a marketing promotion (on the site of the old Ingleside Racetrack) to sell properties in the Ingleside Terraces development.

Giant Sundial

At the center of the city's residential Ingleside Terraces neighborhood is a sundial with a 28-foot-long gnomon, and a worthy member of America's unnecessarily large objects club. The sundial is within the oval Urbano Drive, which follows the course of the former Ingleside Racetrack. For a refreshing contrast in size, the tiny jockey house at 280 Byxbee Street is nearby.
