Shoreham, New York: Abandoned Nuclear Power Plant

Though interior equipment is unmolested, this ghost town nuclear power plant was completed in 1984 and never really operated. Was shut down by local opposition, decommissioned by 1994, nuclear material sent elsewhere. Visible from several public vantage points.

Off North Country road, mostly hidden by trees. Also visible at end of Creek Road west of La Plage restaurant.
Hours:
No trespassing, visible from public perimeter. Local health policies may affect hours and access.

Shoreham was a rallying point for anti-nuke protestors for decades. It was shut down for good in 1994.

Shoreham Nuclear Power station never officially opened for full power and was closed due to public protests. Still visible across creek from Wading River. Can still see the containment vessel and outbuildings, although core was removed many years ago.
