Bradford, Tennessee: Doodle Soup Capital of the World
Visitor Tips and News About Doodle Soup Capital of the World
I am the cook for the Doodle Soup. I cook about 250 lbs. of chicken in two days. I have a lot of good help from volunteers. We have gospel singing, car shows and the Cake Walk. We have some of the best cake makers in the country. So come on down in Sept. 17 and 18 this year (2010).[Cathy Wheeler, 05/29/2010]
There is a Doodle Soup Festival every year in Sept., the third weekend. I help make doodle soup. It is two days of great friendships and food. We also have fried twinkies, fried pies and other great foods. There is also a cake walk, put on by the Lions Club. We use the proceeds for underprivileged kids' Christmas gifts.[Cathy Wheeler, 06/24/2007]
I drove through this town about ten years ago. At that time they had a sign up just where you enter town proclaiming Bradford to be the "Doodle Soup Capital of the World." The sign was confusing, because they capitalized the first three words (BRADFORD DOODLE SOUP) and did the rest normally (Capital of the World) with no punctuation, so it looks like the town is called "Bradford Doodle Soup" and it is the "Capital of the World."[Willie Zaza, 06/17/2001]
"Mikey" informed us in Sept. 2001 that the sign still exists: "Take 45E north to 105E, you'll see the sign on the right hand side once you get into town."
