Odessa - Clay, West Virginia - First Golden Delicious Apple Tree

Lizemore is in Clay, which is where I've lived my entire life. It is true that the first Golden Delicious Apple was created in this small town. The site of the first actual tree can still be found, with a little help. Most people just settle for the Clay County Golden Delicious Apple Festival, which has its own website, that celebrates the beginning of the unique apple itself. [Clayberry, 05/22/2009]

Clendenin, West Virginia - Original Golden Delicious Apple Tree

I was lost near Clendenin, WV looking for house to visit (I'm in real estate) when I came upon a sign stating that this was the site of the 1st Golden Delicious Apple Tree. It is not a state sign, however it must have been very costly to make. It says something about a guy cross-breeding fruit trees and making the 1st G.D Apple. [James Vance, 10/13/2001]
