Giant Thunderbird Sculpture
Heritage Park along the bayfront in downtown Barrie is home to a giant thunderbird sculpture named Spirit Catcher. Built in 1985 for Expo '86 in Vancouver, it was purchased by a Toronto arts foundation and donated to the city in 1987. Weighing 20 tons, this steel sculpture is 70 feet wide and 65 feet tall, and has 16 quills which swing back and forth in the wind.
