Roseburg, Oregon: World's Largest Nutcracker

Herr Woody Winterguard stands 41 feet tall, weighs eight tons, and beat the former record-holder by eight feet. Carved out of fallen sequoia, cedar, and redwood by Toby Johnson. Only visible in December. Its jaws can crush coconuts, if Oregon had coconuts.

World's Largest Nutcracker

Just read in the local paper that removal of the nutcracker has been postponed until nesting owls leave. Then it will come down. No word on why they are removing it or where it is going. We saw it in March 2015 and it is definitely tall!

[Linda, 05/02/2015]

The nutcracker is only supposed to stand for a month or so at this spot each year, then stored indoors the rest of the year to preserve its wood. But the owls evidently want it here year-round.

World's Largest Nutcracker

Just stopped by, and it's definitely still there. I'm assuming it's a permanent fixture. There's an extension cord dangling from the motorized jaw mechanism in the back, but there's nothing to plug into. So no coconut display for me, alas.

World's Largest Nutcracker

The World's Largest Nutcracker is located in a park that is open from sunrise to sunset, though in the holiday season there is a light tour through the park at night. I'm not sure if the nutcracker is just here for the holiday light tour, or it will stay permanently. It's a beautiful nutcracker -- very imposing and regal.
