Django Unchained Plantation: Learn About Slaves

Former sugar plantation, and only plantation which has been turned into a museum dedicated to slavery. Well worth the money for a guided tour -- a must to go see and experience. I took a group of high school students and they were enthralled by the knowledge our guide had and being able to see slave quarters, a slave jail and the various memorials. One student commented that it reminded him of a concentration camp.

The plantation also houses an old church that slaves worshiped in. It now houses sculptures representing the children of the Whitney, by Ohio-based artist Woodrow Nash. The tour also includes touring the "Big House," which is one of the finest surviving examples of Spanish Creole architecture, and the beautiful archway of oaks leading up to the house.

The tour is mostly outside, so dress accordingly and bring water and a hat if it is hot.
