Sardis, Arkansas: Sardis Shoe Tree (Gone)
This shoe tree is ancient -- as far as shoe trees go -- with reported sightings of extraneous footwear dating back to the 1960s.
- Directions:
- I-30 exit 123. Drive south on Hwy 183/Reynolds Rd for four miles. At the stoplight turn left onto W. Sardis Rd. Drive 6.5 miles until the road ends. Turn left onto N. Sardis Rd. Drive north a hundred yards to the next intersection at Houge Rd; tree in the tiny traffic triangle on the right.

The Sardis shoe tree died, so the shoes were removed, and it was cut down in June of 2017.
[Nancy Everett, 07/10/2017]The Shoe Tree in Sardis (Mabelvale) Arkansas is to be removed. A community meeting was set up for June 1 by County Judge Jeff Arey to discuss the process.

[mark, 03/09/2015]According to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, one local resident has reported shoes in the tree since moving to Sardis in 1968.

The meeting determined that the tree is dead "due to many contributing factors" (not just the shoes). A committee will be formed to find the best way to commemorate the tree, possibly by carving it into something.
