Our navigation was leading us in all different directions. We almost gave up, but we found him hidden in a lot of foliage. I thought the statue would be taller. Seems to be in good condition.

A bronze John Lennon arrived outside the Barrymore Hotel in October 2014. He was sculpted by Jose Villa Soberon, a Cuban who in 2000 had sculpted another bronze John Lennon that sits on a park bench in Havana.
That statue caught the attention of an art collector in Colorado, who commissioned Soberon to make a new Lennon for the collector's garden. For unknown reasons the statue wound up being auctioned in 2014, and the owner of the Barrymore Hotel bought it. Soberon calls this statue "Lennon Walking to the Future" even though it vaguely resembles the Beatles-era John Lennon on the back cover of the 1969 Abbey Road album.
As far as we know, John Lennon never stayed at, or walked around outside, the Barrymore Hotel.

Older bronze figures are often rendered "heroic" scale, or larger-than-life, so a life-size one may risk disappearing on the drive-by horizon. But John Lennon, at 5 ft. 10-in., packed a lot of cultural wallop. Imagine all the statues, livin' life in peace.
