Spencer, Indiana - Giant Chicken

Check out the giant white chicken at the entrance to the Owen County Indiana fairgrounds in Spencer. It used to be an advertising gimmick for a drive-in restaurant north of Spencer. When that business folded and the ground was sold for a large factory, local protests forced the city fathers to rescue the well-known chicken. The high school Latin club even climbed the chicken one year to place a laurel wreath on her head in honor of Latin week at the school. [Chris Lowder, 08/18/1998]
