Cryonics Institute
Sits unassuming in the middle of many buildings. Be sure to call ahead and book a tour. Seriously, worth seeing their organization skills of housing 132 humans and 111 pets in a small building!
[Janie K, 08/05/2015]The remains of 132 people and 111 animals from around the world are frozen in storage tanks at the Cryonics Institute in Clinton Township, waiting for scientists to resurrect them in the future. It also preserves 190 human tissue/DNA samples and 60 pet tissue/DNA samples in liquid nitrogen.
The building is on a dead-end back road near a residential area. Until 2012, the site was licensed and regulated as a cemetery by the state of Michigan. None of the locals I've mentioned it to knew it existed.
According to the 2006 National Geographic documentary "Freeze Me," the Cryonics Institute is one of only two organizations that offer the full service. The other facility, Alcor, is in Scottsdale, Arizona.
