Pigeon Roost Massacre

A little known and rarely visited historical marker is in remembrance of a massacre of settlers by the local Native Americans in 1812. Over 20 settlers were killed, with the majority being children. This bloody conflict was the result of the tensions between the Natives and settlers in the area which became Indiana in 1816.

There is an obelisk in remembrance of the victims, as well as a more modern memorial. In addition, there is a rebuilt period cabin, picnic area, and cemetery on the premises.
