1864 Riot Mural

Street parking is pretty easy. There are a couple of civil war monuments and Lincoln historical markers kitty corner to the mural.

The mural is based on a March 28, 1864, Civil War riot in Charleston between Union soldiers and "Copperheads," who opposed the war. Nine men were killed, 12 injured. The man screaming in the foreground of the mural is a Copperhead, identified by the tiny copper pin on his shirt collar.
