Since you mentioned Boring, Maryland, there's another fun-named town, Accident, in the western section of the state. I've been through there but never stopped to check it out in detail. Pretty area, though.

The small town's strange name dates from around 1786; one tale of its origin is that two land surveyors -- friends Brooke Beall and William Deakins Jr. -- had claims they'd surveyed overlapping "by accident." The tract was dubbed in official documents at the time as "Accident."
