I recommend going both up the stairs and down the trail below, to the left of the stairs, for an even better perspective.

Closed for ongoing maintenance, but that only means there is no garbage pickup or restroom maintenance (or camping). You can still park outside the gate and walk over the cattle guard (there's even a plywood sheeting to make it easy).

We discovered Echo Amphitheater by accident when we took the wrong highway. Shout into it and it returns your shout. A well maintained concrete walk leads one to a closer look, with a few picnic tables along the way. It is much larger and further away than it looks from the highway, and the walk to it is very pleasant.
