Adventure Mine
Wow, what a find! There are several mine tours in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, but I am pretty sure that this is the only one with an option that requires a physical!
Before heading out to ride the Pinzgauer (a cool Austrian military truck) to the entrance, you are handed a hard hat with a light on it. This is because the mine has NO lights inside. The mine currently has four different tour options. The two shorter tours (we took the Prospector's tour) explore the first level underground.
Then there are two longer tours that require the participants to rappel down to a lower level. The Captain's tour lasts a full six hours underground, and before my next trip to the UP I plan to get a physical so I can go on the Captain's tour.
Oh yeah, the mine has lots of bats, too.
