Located in a sketchy neighborhood is true. It's also a beautiful neighborhood, with old architecture and cobblestone streets. Bummer the doors were locked and I could not see the inside.

Many times I've taken a road trip and seen replicas of buildings in Europe right here in America. Why is that?

You can get the best photos of the cathedral from across the street at the Diocese office. The cathedral is huge, and it's in a tight area so the angles get weird. Also, the doors were firmly locked even between Sunday masses. This is kind of a sketchy neighborhood, so keep your wits about you.

The Roman Catholic Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption's exterior was inspired by the Paris original and is unfinished -- notice all the missing statue guys in the alcoves. (Kate Smith amends our comments: "There are gargoyles all over the top of the building.") Work started in 1894 and stopped in 1915. It's designated a "minor basilica" by the Vatican.

World's Largest Hand Blown Stained Glass Window

If you wanted to see the world's largest stained glass window, you'd probably think you'd have to travel to Paris, Rome, or possibly England. Think again. It's located in Covington.

Inside St. Mary's Cathedral-Basilica of the Assumption (in Covington) is the largest hand blown stained glass window in existence. It measures a whopping 24 feet by 67 feet and contains 117 distinctive figures.

In addition, the Basilica boasts over 80 other windows depicting a variety of religious scenes.
