Sullivan's Island, South Carolina: Library In A Bunker
Built to defend America from the perfidious Spanish, the bunker was later converted into a public library. Bonus: it's named for Army Private Edgar Allan Poe, who was stationed here in 1828.

- Edgar Allan Poe Branch, Charleston County Library. Drive east on I-26 to Charleston, then take Hwy 17N to Mt. Pleasant over the Ravenel Bridge. From the Bridge, exit onto Coleman Blvd. Follow Coleman Blvd and bear right onto Ben Sawyer Blvd. At the dead end, turn right and drive until you reach the Post Office on the left. Turn left at the Post Office, then right at the end of the block. The Library will be one block on the left.

Old Spanish-American War coastal defense bunker no longer houses cannons, but instead has been converted to a modern library honoring Edgar Allan Poe, who was stationed at Fort Moultrie during his military years.
