The catmint and daylilies give the park a real Mediterranean feel. You almost have a sense of being in Pella, the ancient capital of historical Macedonia in northern Greece where Alexander the Great was born.

According to the inscription on the statue's base, it was given in April 1997 "to the People of the City of Boston." The fact that it wound up here probably had something to do with the Greek Orthodox church across the street.
