Versailles, Kentucky - Occupied Castle

The castle east of Versailles is no longer abandoned! It is now open as "Kentucky's Premier Luxury Tourist Home." The rooms aren't as expensive as I expected them to be, given that there are only fifteen rooms, but they are still high enough to keep me viewing the place from the highway. [Craig S. According to local newspapers, he is going to make the home resemble the original one as much as possible. [Marie Eldridge, 03/22/2005]

[RA: Fans of the Castle have been sending a steady stream of tips on the blaze, which broke out at about 8:30 pm on May 10. Local fire companies had trouble getting in close because of the ditches around the perimeter. It appears the outer battlements survived, but the central castle structure was destroyed. The Versailles Castle was built in the early 1970s by a real estate developer, and was purchased in 2003 by a Florida couple in the process of turning it into a bed and breakfast.]
