Versailles, Kentucky: The Kentucky Castle

Former Martin Castle built in horse country upgraded into an exclusive bed and breakfast. No inside access for non-guests, or non-semi-formal restaurant patrons. Does not want to be thought of as a roadside attraction, but you can see it from the road.

Interesting what money can buy...

And the view isn't bad from the free seats!

The Castle Post.

The Castle Post

Martin Castle is now called Castle Post, and is a bed and breakfast with a medieval theme. We drove by and snapped some photos. Pretty neat architecture. Would've been nice to walk through, but signs posted said it was private property and for registered guests only.

Martin Castle

Versailles Castle looks great, post-fire. However, as many have said, they don't take kindly to visitors that go to have a look-see and quickly send you on your way. I was there when there was not a single visitor there and even told them I was thinking of having an event there. They weren't biting!

In our local paper [11/12/2010] there was an AP photo of Versailles Castle from the Herald-Leader with a caption quoting the general manager of CastlePost that the property is for sale. After looking into it a bit: it is more a matter of anything is for sale if the price is right. Woodford County PVA assesses the 50 acres & castle for 4.5 million. Mr. Post, an out-of-state owner, who bought it for 1.8 million in 2003, is now offering the renovated castle for 30 million.

Despite the collapse of the housing market, castle-flipping is still profitable!

Occupied Castle

The castle east of Versailles is no longer abandoned! It is now open as "Kentucky's Premier Luxury Tourist Home." The rooms aren't as expensive as I expected them to be, given that there are only fifteen rooms, but they are still high enough to keep me viewing the place from the highway.
