Clarence's Corner - Popcorn Man

The corner of Third and Main Street in Sterling was dedicated in the memory of Clarence Mentgen, "The Popcorn Man."

Clarence sold popcorn from a little shack on the courthouse square from 1939 to 1977. In 2008 the town erected a bronze statue of Clarence, by Colorado artist Shalah Perkins, and a buttery replica of the shack (no popcorn sold).
