I-17 exit 289. Drive south on W. Middle Verde Rd for a half-mile. Turn left at the blinker light onto Montezuma Castle Rd. Follow it three miles until it ends at the Visitor Center parking lot.

Since 2015, the National Park program at everykidinapark.gov has invited 4th graders to sign up and print out a free one year pass to enter federal parks, lands and waters with their families.

This was a very interesting trip. My daughter fell in love with how old, neat, and big the castle was. There is also Montezuma's Well that is nearby with up-close dwellings.

Dramatic prehistoric cliff house, built circa 1300, incorrectly attributed to Aztec emperor Montezuma. You can walk to the base of the cliff, but climbing to the castle has been forbidden since 1951.
