Coopers Cave - Last of the Mohicans
A small overlook under a bridge in an industrial area is where you can see the cave that supposedly inspired James Fennimore Cooper to write the Last of the Mohicans. Everything is fenced off (my photo was taken by putting the camera through a chain link) and we would have thought it was a joke except that we saw a brochure that it is part of the "New York Independence Trail."

The cave was a 19th century roadside attraction, and was open to tourists until 1962. In 2000 there was talk of reopening the cave for public tours, but that plan has apparently gone the way of the Mohicans.
