Norfolk, Virginia: Battleship Wisconsin
Commissioned in April 1944, opened as a tourist attraction in April 2001. Tour its interior, stroll its decks; there are a lot of them, it's 887 feet long. Good outdoor views from the Elizabeth River Trail just across the inlet.

Combined with the maritime museum next door. Self guided tour. Try to visit early in the day during the summer, or else the interior of the ship gets too hot and will be closed off. The adjoining museum has excellent history of the ship.

Terrific self-guided tour above and below decks. Claustrophobic travelers should do only the former.

The USS Wisconsin began life as an attraction in Norfolk, VA; the USS Iowa made it to the San Francisco Bay in its penultimate step toward the same fate; while existing attraction USS Lexington survived a fire in Corpus Christi, TX.
