Air Scoop from the Battleship Maine

For many years growing up in the town of Woburn, Massachusetts I strolled by an artifact placed inside a glass case on the town common. As a child I had viewed this object many times without realizing it's historical significance. In the case is an air scoop from the deck of the U.S.S Maine. Upon graduating from the local high school I enlisted in the navy. After a four year tour I promptly returned to my beloved hometown. Many years later at the local Veterans club I was embroiled in a discussion about the contents of the glass enclosure -- a few of the members took the short walk to verify the scoop's existence. Recently while on a ski trip to Maine I read a story in a local paper about plans for a centennial ceremony for the U.S.S Maine. I have tried unsuccessfully to contact the committee in regards to this artifact. Perhaps someone would be interested ? [Dave O., 02/12/1998]
