Phantom Shrimp Boat
The Mystery Shrimp Boat in Freeport.
[Gena, 10/09/2012]The boat was actually dredged up from the bottom of the local harbor. Its owners were known, but they didn't want it as it was rotted and stripped of its riggings. The city wanted a monument to the local shrimping industry and chose the boat because it was free. Not a whole lot to see, but it does make for a good photo op.
[William P Samuel, 08/09/2012]This shrimp boat was found unoccupied wandering the Gulf. No one ever claimed it. It sits as a monument to the entrance of the park. I have been in the area 22 years and it was here way before I came to town. Cannot tour it , but can get up close and take pics. There is a plaque stating the exact circumstances of finding the boat...
