Snow Hill, Maryland - Furnace Town

Furnace Town is an early iron furnace located 4 miles north of Snow Hill on the Delmarva Peninsula. Iron ore was manufactured here in the early l800's using bog ore from the Nassawango Swamps nearby. The original iron furnace with hot blast pipes is still standing. The entire 25 acre site is open to the public. Furnace Town was home of the infamous Sampson Hat, a black man that lived to be 106 years old and was said to be fast enough to run down a deer and able to swim in the water well enough to catch an otter.
