Middleville, New York - Herkimer Diamond Mines - Vague Recollections

We had a great day searching for diamonds in 1989. The ground sparkles with diamond dust from the previous finds. Herkimer Diamonds are quartz crystals, You find them by breaking apart of the Mountain (hill) with a hammer. Your eyes light up when you find your first diamond and groups start to yell when they find the BIG ONE. They have a resaurant, souvenir shop and a campground across the road. [Margaret, 07/01/2001]
