Fork in the Road. Milan - Rock City, New York - Fork in the Road

My fork in the road is 31 feet tall at a major crossroad near Rhinebeck, NY. I made it from a 13ft. piece of scrap plate steel (x2) and the top 5-ft was aluminum from my dumpster diving -- complete with a taper (sent by the fork gods). It’s been a real hit -- I guess you just don’t come to a "fork in the road" that often. Must admit it was the perfect spot. [Stephen Schreiber, 07/05/2008]

Fork in the Road. Milan - Rock City, New York - Fork in the Road

I live in Red Hook, NY in Dutchess County next to the town of Rhinebeck, famous for the Dutchess County Fairgrounds. There is a "fork in the road" that splits Rhinebeck and Red Hook on Rte 199. It is huge. [Jane Kostopoulos, 06/02/2007]

The Fork. Milan - Rock City, New York - Fork in the Road

A "fork in the road," where there is a real fork in the road. The roads are route 199 and route 308 outside of Red Hook and Rhinebeck, NY. The fork is gigantic - at least 20 feet high and stands out like a, well, a giant fork in the road. [Al DeLuca, 03/26/2007]

Milan - Rock City, New York - 31-Ft. Tall Metal Fork

At the "fork in the road" of Route 308 and Salisbury Turnpike (heading west towards Rhinebeck) there is a huge, metal dinner fork in the road, with tines in the grass. What a great idea someone had! So when you're told to make a left at the fork in the road, you know exactly where you are! [Deanna Ranneklev, 09/08/2006]

Milan - Rock City, New York - Fork in the Road - The Artist Speaks

I am the "artist" of a 31-foot fork made of steel. I placed it standing upright in a triangle at the intersection of NY Rt. 199 and 308. Needless to say it has been a real attraction since it was erected on Jan 1 2000 [a millenium fork].

It all started out as goof for me since I like "punny" things! It sits on state land [that I mow and maintain] in "downtown Rock City" -- this Rock City existed long before Rock City Tenn. In all kinds of weather I've seen people stop and take pictures --guess it's becoming a landmark! Can I claim that it's the largest fork in the road in the world? Why not ! [Steve Schreiber, 05/03/2002]
