Bear on display.

World Record Black Bear

The Black Bear has a new home since 2005, and appears to be an awesome sight for all viewers. It's huge and very well done. Stop and see -- 1/2 block from Hwy 13 in Glidden.

World's Largest Black Bear on Display

In Glidden, Wisconsin,a small town on Hwy 13 in northern Wisconsin, is the "World's Largest Black Bear." A huge black bear sits on top of the hill in a large glass case with a plaque describing the story behind it.

[Tyler Drummond, 04/13/2007]

The town of Mellon, 30 minutes north of Glidden on Hwy 13, is known as the "Black Bear Capital of the World," but Tyler recommends Glidden "instead of a city that doesn't have any exhibits."

665-pound Stuffed Black Bear

The record black bear has been completely refurbished and is housed in a new home across the side street from the BP/Amoco. It is awesome.

Local businesses in Glidden got together and gave the bear -- known locally as "Mr. Bear" -- a complete makeover in early 2005.

Mangy bear.

The Glidden Bear

I was confused with the original directions from your tips. They were backwards but we persevered. It's really mangy and funky looking. Apparently they used to drag it out for parades. The glass is so flyblown and dirty you can hardly see it. You can sort of make it out in the gloom.

665-pound Stuffed Black Bear

There is a 665 pound stuffed black bear in a glass case in the town of Glidden, Wisconsin, "Black Bear Capital of the World." It is located one block west of State route 13. It became the world record at the time it was killed (November 23, 1963). A great Roadside America stop for those who are heading to Lake Superior as you can drive right up in front of the attraction and view it from your car.

That date sounds awful familiar....
