Rodney was cursed by a fickle Mississippi River, a fire, and a railroad that went somewhere else.

Like somebody else said: DO NOT use GPS. We never did find it. Saw a lot of deer, cardinals, dirt/mud roads and trees. Don't try this drive unless you have an SUV and about an hour to kill.

Long dirt road there, looks like it is slowly being devolved again. Cool trip though.
[Jared, 11/13/2012]We followed the directions carefully but could not find the town, even when the GPS indicated we were right on top of it. Phone service is spotty at best so don't rely on a phone GPS.
[VGulley, 08/27/2012]Dang ghost towns, never providing the kind of connectivity needed by the modern traveler. If anyone can improve on the directions, send 'em this way.
Ghost Town of Rodney
We entered the town by driving through the Alcorn University campus. Every route in and out (the ones we could find, anyway) puts you on dirt and gravel roads for at least 3 miles. So, make sure your vehicle can handle that and make sure you are there during daylight!
There appear to be 3 old buildings. The old church is surrounded by historical plaques detailing Rodney's historical significance. As others mentioned, this is absolutely not a ghost town. There are trailers and small houses everywhere and a farm not too far away. This is definitely a great stop for lovers of old buildings and civil war history!
