Giant Chicken - The Family Farm - Gone
This restaurant and "fixtures" were built by my father, Fredrick William (Bill) Heath, contractor-builder (deceased 1954).
The giant chicken was constructed from plaster and chicken wire. A ladder went up into the bird, and you could climb all the way up to the eyes and look out. It was the tallest structure for miles around, built beside what became Interstate 80 (at Watt Avenue).
The next owner was a farm implement dealer, and then a succession of furniture stores -- to the present.

September 2008: Melissa notes "I don't know when this was torn down (I grew up here and don't remember it at all, so I assume it's been decades) but there's a furniture store at that address now, and has been for years."
