Daniel's Ridge

On the way into Lutsen there is what appears to be an abandoned sculpture garden. Only a few of the sculptures are still standing, with more laying in the grass and woods. Many are of human or animal forms, with one inexplicable cactus thrown into the mix. A newly painted sign calls it "Daniel's Ridge," and a much older sign below states he was "bored of trade." Although most sculptures have fallen into disrepair, the grass is still mowed and cared for. There are also a few chairs for travelers to stop and rest while reflecting on the meaning of the signs.

We first received reports of this junk-art display in 2000. Its towering metal Tin Man now appears to have collapsed.

Tin Man and Other Sculptures

These sculptures are located north of Lutsen/south of Grand Marais on the north side of Hwy 61. They are located in a grassy clearing in an otherwise wooded area of the north shore. They look like they haven't been maintained in years. It's a quirky assortment!

There is a small driveway area to pull off the highway.
