Sea Shell City I was taken to this delightful attraction by my parents when I was a very little boy on trips to Macinaw City in the late 1940s or early 1950s (am now 63), so this spot is ancient. The "man-eating clam" sign out has been out front for over 50 years. Inside there are rows and aisles of seashell trinkets and the "man-eating clam" with a pair of human legs sticking out of the rim.
It's so fake it's still a riot of fun after 50 years. I just took my 16 year old daughter there in 2007 and she laughed so hard it was crazy. Go see this place but don't expect high entertainment. [Gary Sklar, 05/25/2008]
Sea Shell City What makes Sea Shell City, Cheboygan so unique is it's longevity. I remember going there around 1957 -- we rode the ferry boat across to the UP, so the Mackinac Bridge wasn't completed yet. I-75 was not there then either. This place sits on an exit with only a gas station and as far as I saw no other attractions around it. It's like they built the exit just for this attraction. I'm not sure of the age of this site but it was the same in 1998 as I remembered it in 1957. [Mike Monroe, 09/26/1998]
