El Toro, the Brave Black Bull.

El Toro, the Brave Black Bull

It appears El Toro has changed nationalities. His male-hood no longer reflects the American Flag as reported in 2008, but rather now sports the flag of Italy. Otherwise he's looking in pretty good shape. The restaurant, however, has been closed since April 2022 due to a kitchen fire. Unsure if it will reopen.

El Toro the Brave Bull

El Toro's testicles have been painted like the American flag for a while now. Try Beyond Bread across the street from El Toro for great sandwiches! I am always going there and so am always inspecting how El Toro's "masculinity" has been modified.

El Toro, the Brave Black Bull

The Casa Molina Restaurant has been open since 1947, and the slightly larger than life-size bull and matador statue by the parking lot has been there almost as long. The bull is known as El Toro, the Brave Black Bull. It was kind of hard to photograph, but the bull is also anatomically correct. A popular local prank over the years has been to paint El Toro's balls bright red.

[Dean Jeffrey, 10/13/2002]

The matador and bull were built in the early 1960s by the same Tucson artist who sculpted the giant Tiki and Sphinx at Magic Carpet Golf. El Toro's balls are the object of frequent, ritual colorization.
