This has got to be the site that many are thinking of. I've never actually been to it, but have past it countless number of times when going to the "UP" (the Upper Peninsula of Michigan). This kitschy site is at exit 326 on I-75, just about ten miles south of Mackinaw City and the Mackinac Bridge. Anybody travelling to Mackinac Island, the UP, Canada and Northern Wisconsin was going to pass by it (and I think most people DO pass it by). A buddy of mine who now lives in Cheboygan stopped once and said that besides the clam shell, it is basically a giftshop of sea shell knick-knacks.

What makes Sea Shell City, Cheboygan so unique is it's longevity. I remember going there around 1957 -- we rode the ferry boat across to the UP, so the Mackinac Bridge wasn't completed yet. I-75 was not there then either. This place sits on an exit with only a gas station and as far as I saw no other attractions around it. It's like they built the exit just for this attraction. I'm not sure of the age of this site but it was the same in 1998 as I remembered it in 1957.
