Cory the Ice House Giant

Sold and removed.

Cory was taken down on March 1. According to Joel Baker, his American Giants company will restore the statue and then it will be shipped to a muscle car museum in Ohio.

The parking lot next to the giant is full of glass and sharp objects. Be careful!

Icehouse Man.

Icehouse Man

The Ice-Man stands atop a stone platform in front of The Ice-House Tavern next to New Castle Public Library. You can see him if you park around the side of the building next to a small building in the parking lot of the library. He is "dressed" in blue and white.

There's another of the same mold in Montpelier, IN, holding a tiny ice cream cone. Has been seen as an Uncle Sam in other states, hence the lapel clenching.

Uncle Sam hybrid statue.

Uncle Sam Hybrid Statue

This statue is about twenty feet tall (not counting the pedestal), made entirely of fiberglass and is wearing a faded blue blazer and baseball cap, both emblazoned with Marathon logos, has a really pasty complexion and sports a jaunty set of sideburns to boot.

He lacks the classic 'right up/left down' hand positions, instead looking much more like a real estate agent or a preacher... your guess is as good as mine. He is placed in front of a seedy-looking bar/package store in a none-too-glamorous part of town. Still, you go where you have to, right?

I don't see any others on the tracking chart that look anything like him, but he would seem to be a close cousin to the Muffler men... or at least an eccentric uncle.

[Jeanette Stout, 07/22/2002]

He's not a muffler man, though an interesting hybrid of the Uncle Sam body we've seen elsewhere in the Midwest. With that scary head added -- perhaps a current or previous owner of the establishment? -- it is a rare find!
