Voyageur Statue The voyageurs were French fur traders who explored Minnesota and conducted commerce with the native peoples there during the 18th and early 19th centuries. There are several monuments to their presence throughout Minnesota, and this fiberglass statue is one of the more kitschy homages. It's just outside a gift shop that sells northern Minnesota and wilderness theme novelties. The shop is clearly visible from the highway; there is a big sign that reads, 'HUGE GIFT SHOP'. Upstairs from the gift shop is a restaurant that, by its own proclamation, is famous for its burgers.
