Brooklyn, Iowa: Community of Flags

Brooklyn figured out an inexpensive yet patriotic way to put itself on the map, with a boulevard of flags from every state and some nations. There's a Community of Flags gift shop.

Community of Flags

This was an awesome stop on a long day trip and right by the gas station for a quick and easy fill up. I went on a beautiful day and the flags were a-blowin! Only thing that was upsetting is that if there's a certain flag you want to photograph on the side, you won't be able to get a good picture of it -- because the path drops off and is next to a residential home.

The flags are hard to photograph late in the day because the only good place to stand is facing west.

GREAT quick diversion for a 5 year old on a long drive to Yellowstone NP. Flag Community Store is closed on Sunday.

Community of Flags

Just a mile or two off Interstate 80, you'll find a small town known for its big flag display. It's worth the drive to stop and see, especially on a day when the flags are blowing in the wind. There are very few restaurants to stop a grab a bite to eat, but there is a Community of Flags Store in which you can buy anything flag-related, or visit one of the consignment-type stalls to grab a cheap book or something you didn't even know you needed before hitting the road again.

Inspiring Community of Flags, (and souvenirs)

Has all 50 state flags in the Union and from other countries in the world. It's very inspiring to see and photograph. Down the street is a small gift shop selling stuff -- anything to do with the Community of Flags (T-shirts, stickers, books, flags) and garage sale items. Town is a nice place.
