Iola, Kansas - Major General Funston Boyhood Home

Major General Frederick Funston's Boyhood home was awesome! Who knew that he was a military leader that served OVER Eisenhower, Pershing, Patton and MacArthur! He was the man who saved San Francisco after the 1906 earthquake and fire, and is well known in California for his service there. The house and museum about Funston is located on the largest courthouse square in Kansas! The house was moved from the original homesite to the downtown Iola square and is full of artifacts and furniture from the original home. [Barbara Chalker, 07/06/2006]

Directions: Iola is located at the crossroads of U.S. Hwy 169 and 54. The Funston Home and Museum are located on the west side of the Allen County courthouse square. 1/2 block north of U.S. Highway 54 (Madison Avenue).
Admission: Free.
Hours: April 1 to Oct 31 - 12:30 - 4:30 pm, winter hours 2 - 4 p.m. (Call to verify)
