Miles of Mules
Doylestown, Pennsylvania - Miles of Mules Scattered from Bristol to Wilkes Barre are life-sized fiberglass mules. The ones I've seen have been in Doylestown and Dublin. These mules are artistic cultural reminders that if it weren't the mules, locations along and nearby the Delaware and Lehigh Canals/Barges wouldn't have grown into the prosperous towns they are today. The James A. Michner Art Museum (located right across the street from Mercer Museum) of Doylestown fostered the idea. Local companies sponsor local artists to paint/decorate mules; they are then displayed, most often in front of the sponsor's business. Some are beautiful, some are tacky. One has painted on jeans and suspenders and another has a grand suit. If you drive along Main Street in Doylestown you are guaranteed to see at least four. The one is Dublin is in front of Dairy Queen on Route 313. It was sponsored by Kelchner's Horseradish, which happens to be located just down the road on 313.
