Clinton, Montana: Testicle Festival (Gone)

This year is the 25th anniversary of Rock Creek's annual Testicle Festival. Because the past few years it has been cold and wet, we have changed 2007's dates to August 1-5. We are only a 10 hour drive from Sturgis, SD and this year the Sturgis rally officially starts on August 6th. So stop on by and help us celebrate our 25th anniversary on your way to Sturgis! Clinton, MT's 16th Annual Testicle Festival was attended by over 15,000 people this year, according to a story in the Missoulian last week. Over 5,000 pounds of Rocky Mountain Oysters were consumed by sometimes intoxicated attendees in various states of undress....

I confess, I am a veteran Testicle Festival party-goer. During my college years at the University of Montana (Missoula, MT), I attended the notorious Testicle Festival on several occasions. The festival is an annual event (usually held for a whole weekend in September or October) that takes place at the Rock Creek Lodge.

At the festival, people of all ages gather to party and consume "Rocky Mountain Oysters" (bull testicles beer-battered and deep fried). Don't pass judgment either - it sounds as weird to most Montanans (myself included) as it probably sounds to the rest of you. Being a strict vegetarian, I have never actually tried one of these "tasty" treats, but I hear they taste like chicken (if you can believe that).

Regardless, the festival is a lot of fun & I highly recommend it to those who can stomach it! Oh, and I recently heard that there is also now a "Pussy Festival" held sometime in the Spring; apparently they serve bobcat or mountain lion meat.

An event that may interest you and other afficionados of the unusual is the annual Testicle Festival, held in Clinton, Montana, near Missoula, apparently not far off of I-90. I spotted a sign announcing it on a cross country drive last year.
